The Machame Route takes you from lush rainforest into the open landscapes of the Shira Plateau, across the dramatic Barranco Wall and towards the high-altitude wilderness surrounding Kilimanjaro's summit. Over seven days on the mountain, your experienced guides and dedicated support crew will help you navigate the route while following a carefully planned acclimatization profile. Your summit attempt leads to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres above sea level. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp for the night before completing the trek to Mweka Gate the following day. Return to your lodge near Kilimanjaro for a well-deserved celebration before preparing for the safari. Your wildlife adventure begins in Tarangire National Park, continues towards Ndutu in the Southern Serengeti and culminates with a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. Common questions

No. Kilimanjaro is a non-technical trekking mountain — no ropes and no previous mountaineering. What decides most summits is altitude adaptation rather than fitness, which is why the itinerary follows climb-high-sleep-low and why the guides walk pole pole, slowly and steadily.

You should be comfortable walking five to seven hours a day on consecutive days, carrying only a day pack. Regular hill walking in the months before you come is the most useful preparation.

An assistant guide walks you down while the rest of the group carries on. Every trip carries an emergency oxygen cylinder, a first aid kit and a pulse oximeter, and the guides check every climber twice a day.

Yes. Sleeping bags, down jackets, boots and poles are all available to rent in town, and your guide inspects your kit the day before you leave so anything missing can be sorted.

Guides, porters and cooks are our own salaried staff on published rates, with load limits observed and proper mountain clothing provided.
